Dangerous Quakers

The Pentagon has decided that Quakers must be up to no good and must be watched. MSNBC reports the a secret Penatagon document describes a meeting of peace activists at the Lake Worth Quaker Meeting as a “threat” and one of more than 1,500 “suspicious incidents” across the country over a recent 10-month period. The Defense Department refused to comment on how it obtained information on the Lake Worth meeting or why it considers a dozen or so anti-war activists a “threat.”

Is the Penatagon spying on any other religious groups or have we been singled out? Are they spying on the Catholics, the Baptists? Why are American citizens going about lawful business being watched by the DoD?

DRM and Spyware

Ed Felten's blog Freedom to Tinker has an exclellent article about my CD DRM and by extension all DRM will by necessity be spyware. Basically, all the DRM software does is prevent the user from doing things she wants to do, so: 1) The users doesn't want it on her computer and 2) the DRM software must be hidden from the user or the user will remove it because of 1. Sounds like the rationale behind spayware to me.
